California is one of the best places to go solar! The cost of electricity from the power companies is expensive and we have plenty of sun! With all that sun we have plenty of areas that use air conditioning in the hotter months that leads to more use of electricity. Solar can help reduce and manage your energy costs!
We certainly hope so! To ensure you are suitable, we perform an onsite site survey where we come out and walk your roof and all around your home, attic and garage. We take measurements and assess your home’s viability for solar. We most especially assess your roof for viability as this is your home and we want to protect one of your biggest investments!
Typically very little. There are no moving parts and the components were built for this purpose! The most you really need to do is to keep your system connected to your home wifi (if you have a wifi enabled system). You will need to update the wifi information should you change passwords or wifi routers.
Currently the lifespan for most solar panels is about 25 -30 years. After that the panel may degrade than less than desirable amount of production but it certainly can continue to produce beyond that time.
In April 2023, California shifted its solar policy in a major way. Under NEM 2.0, you were able to sell back to the utility company the extra power your solar produced for a one to one credit. Under NEM 3.0 the value of the solar sold back was reduced by roughly 80%. The value is now determined by a calculator, so the day and hour now matter!
You will still receive a monthly utility bill but between that and your solar cost you will still see an overall savings on your energy usage.
The simple answer is yes it can. The longer answer is it can depend on how the system was purchased (cash, ownership financed, leased, or Power Purchase Agreemens aka PPAs). An owned system can increase the sale value of your home by a national average of 4%. While a lease or PPA may not increase the value of your home, it can increase the likelihood of the sale of your home as more buyers as interested in homes with solar already installed to take advantage of the energy savings already built in.
